‘Leading the charge for the Seymour Park stud was an upstanding medium wool sure which was sashed the grand champion Poll Merino ram.

When announcing the Seymour Park sire as the grand champion, judge Dennis Haddrick said it was a very correct ram which stood up well.

“He stands wide behind and has a deep twist,” Mr Haddrick said.

“Along with his excellent structure, he also has a lovely, white, waxy medium wool.

“He is a very productive and complete sire.”

The Seymour Park ram was also sashed the grand champion August shorn Poll Merino ram and champion August shorn medium wool Poll Merino ram.

When it was sashed the champion in its opening class, Mr Sullivan said said the ram had a great outlook, was well balanced and carried a rich, bold, medium wool.

The six-tooth sire, is no stranger to top awards as it was sashed the reserve grand champion medium wool ram, reserve champion medium wool Poll Merino ram and reserve champion August shorn medium wool Poll Merino ram at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in July and champion medium wool Poll Merino ram at this year’s Williams Gateway Expo.

The ram is from a syndicate mating of the stud’s show rams and has wool figures of 20.3 micron, 3.1 SD, 15,3 CV and 99.6pc CF.

In the ewe section, the stud had to settle for the reserve grand champion ribbon behind Claypans stud.

Mr Haddrick said the Seymour Park ewe was also a beauty.

“She stands up well and shows good purity,” he said.

“Her wool is also highly attractive- it is a bright, white medium wool with plenty of softness and quality about it.”

Prior to being sashed the reserve grand champion Poll Merino ewe the classy exhibit was sashed the reserve grand champion August shorn Poll Merino ewe and champion August shorn medium wool Poll Merino ewe.

At this point Mr Sullivan said it was a well put together ewe with bulky, bright, stylish wool.

The four-tooth ewe is by Seymour Park George and carried wool figures of 20.1 micron, 3.0 SD, 14,9 CV and 99.8pc CF.

The Seymour Park stud also shone through in the March shorn Poll Merino ewe classes when it exhibited the grand champion March shorn Poll Merino ewe and champion March shorn medium/strong wool Poll Merino ewe.

Mr Sullivan said the Seymour Park’s March shorn exhibit had a good structure and outlook.

“She stands up well and in addition carries a nice, bright, crimpy wool,” he said.

The four-tooth ewe is by Winyar Chappy and had wool figures of 19.1 micron, 2.8 SD, 14.7 CV and 99.8pc CF.

Rabobank Stud Merino Ram Sale 2016 – Seymour Park

Seymour Park put up three Poll rams, which sold to a top of $13,000.

Bill Cowan, Crichton Vale stud, Narembeen, took home the $13,000 ram and said he had only seen the ram on sale day but it had instantly stood out for his next stud sire.

“We are trying to free up our ewes a bit and I think he is that type of sheep with really high quality, free growing wool,” he said.

“I was told about him and was not disappointed when I saw him. He is a really well put together sheep with a medium to bold style of wool which will suit our environment well.”

The ram had also performed well at the recent Australian Sheep & Wool Show, being placed second in its class.

Figures wise it measured 20 micron, 99.6pc CF, 17.5 CV, 3.5 SD and 75.5pc yield.

Another Seymour Park ram sold for $5,000 for Andrew Bos, AH & MG Bos, Wentworth, NSW.
